Put your shoes back on!!

I had to tell one of my students this yesterday.

This particular student was wearing Ugg boats (already gross, I know). Then she sat down, kicked her ugly shoes off, then got up to walk around the room to talk to her friends before class began.

EWWWWW!!!

  1. We have a few people on my campus who insist on walking around barefoot all the time. This really disgusting tendency caused me and a couple of my colleagues to add a "no shirt, no shoes, no service" clause to our syllabi.

  2. Sorry, big important detail missing. NO SOCKS. Ick.

  3. Last year I nearly went DefCon 1 when a student proceeded to prop his bare, filthy trotters on the seat in front of him (perilously close to my nose, mind) and stare unblinking at them for the rest of the review session.

One way to attempt enlightenment, I guess.

  4. I hate to sound so old, but don't they know they're in public, in an actual professional work environment? Are they so stoned?

  5. To be honest, the bare foot thing doesn't bother me. What DOES bother me is spitting. Yaarrgggh, you spread disease that way, bitches!

  6. Spitting? Srsly? you know that the incidence of TB went down drastically long before antibiotics were discovered, and the decline is attributed largely to the fact that spitting in public stopped being socially acceptable? (Or so I am told.)

  7. Time to get out the fire hose...

I guess they figure that, because they live on campus, the classroom is an extention of their dormroom.
