Is anyone reading? I can't believe how few posts there have been over the past couple of weeks.
I see the same names over and over again. Is it silly of me to wonder if anyone's reading if nobody's writing?
If you're here, on board, reading, thinking, partaking in the misery, post something - anything - below. Say howdy. What gives? Where have you been?
This place was HOPPING when I first started writing and reading. Now it seems like it's closed up shop. I'd hate that. I love reading the page.
So, POST SOMETHING BELOW TO SHOW YOU'RE STILL WITH US! Even a peep would let me know you're still in the game.
Thanks,
TP
Peep!
ReplyDeleteI read more than I post/comment, but I'm here.
Peep shmeep.
ReplyDeleteSome of us are up to our bloody eyeballs in drama.
Take me--one of my little snowflakes has blown off an exam, two makeup appts, and is about to miss the second exam. The excuses have been marginal at best.
Has also not taken any of the online quizzes.
I'm not the only prof that Precious has pulled this with.
And yet the administration wants us all to help our little flake succeed...
howdy
ReplyDelete@ Terry P:
ReplyDeleteYou don't do your own marking, do you?!
(Now where's my St. Bernard / rum cask...)
Just a lurker (with occasional exceptions), but reading avidly.
ReplyDeleteIt seems that the current slowdown has timed itself perfectly with . . . Charlie Sheen's meltdown. We're all on a drug called Charlie Sheen and all of our faces have melted off.
ReplyDeleteOr, it could be that all of our students are perfect lit . . . mrf . . snrk . . . sorry, I couldn't keep a straight face.
I'm here reading and lurking. Also in the midst of grading hell, hence the reason for not posting.
ReplyDeleteI read. :) I'm too paranoid about giving away where I am (and getting my assistantship yanked in the process) to send in posts.
ReplyDeleteI'm here, reading. I'm a grad student, and I come here for a glimpse of what's to come, should I be so lucky to be the in 8 or whatever it is that actually gets a job.
ReplyDeleteFor parts of the U.S., we have Spring Break either this week or next week or the week after and... a lot of mid-terms to grade.
ReplyDeleteMany have conferences this month.
And... some of us are already looking ahead to summer and/or fall classes. Busy time.
Daily reader, but rarely a commenter. But, oh, I have the misery.
ReplyDeleteI'm here! I check multiple times a day. I have lots of misery but don't think I could ever be as funny as the posters so I limit myself to lurking and commenting (twice so far, I think).
ReplyDeleteI'm here to lurk. I'm a grad student and middle school teacher. I come here to feel better or worse (depending on the day) as a result of how similar your student problems are to mine.
ReplyDeleteBzzzzz
ReplyDeleteI gave up my posting rights to let others in, but I still read every single post. Howdy!!!
ReplyDelete@Pat from Peoria
ReplyDeleteBut if you're on Charlie Sheen YOU'RE WINNING! Screw not having a face; your skull is A WINNAR!
LIBYA UPDATE:
Pretty much Mo' is in full "Hitler `45" mode; along the Libyan coast only two towns are held by his goons: Tripoli and Surt, Moammar Gazzafi's home town. The rebels are forming their own army while Mo' is relying on his mercenaries to retake the oil towns on the eastern coast. Pretty much things are in a deadlock and it seems very probable that Gazzafi will die violently, much like the 6500 people* who have already been killed in this revolution-cum-civil war.

I'm just a reader/commenter, not a poster, but I'm here.
ReplyDeleteadsum.
ReplyDeletePeep.
ReplyDeleteSick and miserable here. Picked up the pleague from the students. Help ... send laughs and antihistamine.
ReplyDeleteI have successfully proctored and graded my midterms this week. I am just waiting for the college’s online system to make the Midterm Grade Worksheet available so that I can post them and get into Spring Break mode.
ReplyDeleteI will continue to read College Misery everyday I am off, however.
Who knows what evil lurks in the comment section of College Misery? The shadow knows!
ReplyDeleteI am a daily reader and one time commenter.
ReplyDeleteThere's a reason why traffic is relatively slow. It's time for mid-term exams.
ReplyDeleteI love this page too. More of a reader than a columnist. But I love it!!! :)
ReplyDeletePresent.
ReplyDeleteWhat's up ?
ReplyDeleteStill sitting in the front.
ReplyDeleteI read, several times a week. I don't comment, because I'm a non-trad student (hopefully not a snowflake) at a relatively large community college.
ReplyDeleteI also have three tests next week, whee...
I have two midterms to hand back tomorrow. A set of essays and a quiz for my huge class come in next week, and then a set of drafts. I'm not sure what the hell i was thinking when I scheduled all this.
ReplyDeleteI'm here regularly, reading to preserve my sanity.
I guarantee you that all of these comments were written by - at most! - 3 people.
ReplyDeleteEpic. Fail.
Oh, and PEEP!
Hello! Student here, trying to avoid snowflakery.
ReplyDeleteToo busy making up new email identities and posting, of course.
ReplyDeleteOr maybe just too damn busy/fed up to put something together.
I'm here too. I post sometimes but my posts are boring and I live Greta's life anyhow. Actually, I think I may have a split personality and maybe I AM Greta!!!!
ReplyDeleteI love this site because it keeps me sane and helps me realize that it is not just me!
I'm here. Getting ready for a swell accelerated term. 10 days before the start of class, email has arrived from students who will be "abroad" during the traditional semester spring break, which does does not sync with our accelerated session schedule. Somehow, this is supposed to be my problem. Another wanted to know what textbook..even though the school's bookstore has a web presence that will tell you that (and, thanks to the last Congress, give you the ISBN so you can go find someplace cheaper to buy it...).
ReplyDeleteBut the first correspondence for the class arrived in --wait for it-- early October, from somebody whose family situation THEN meant she needed a commitment from me that she'd be able to get registered for the class.
As if I were the registrar, and not a suffering adjunct.
I'm here. Working my day job and online teaching gig too....
I'm here--kinda start the day here, in fact, though I'm not sure that's always a good thing, particularly since my current disinterest in commenting(my foray of choice hereabouts)stems from my near-complete despair at my own students' slumping funk. Meh. But I am here.
ReplyDeleteOh--and I just wanna give a shout-out to the students among us: Good on ya for hoping to avoid the 'flakery. Reading here is an indication of your (inborn? likely!) success at that. Encourage your minions, m'kay? Well, those who can read and make meaning therefrom...
ReplyDeleteI am here -------->
ReplyDeleteI am here; primarily reading. Soon, hopefully, to be a grad or law student. I try not to put my two cents worth in too much because this is, after all, a site for Profs. But I am here...to read and learn.
ReplyDeleteI'm here, but mega-busy. I teach 7 classes between 2 universities (5 at Main U/MU and 2 at Secondary U/SU) and assist with an 8th at MU. Cause I'm mostly crazy, but also an adjunct and the sole income for my family.
ReplyDeleteHell yes I am still here. Itching for some old school smackdown.
ReplyDeleteBuuuuuuuuurrrrrrrrrrp!
ReplyDeleteDid someone say something?
I'm reading...
ReplyDeleteI am here. I check the page often throughout the day and, in my head, have written many letters to the flakes I have this semester like:
ReplyDeleteWrong-Edition Wanda
Lazy Lenny
Dan Disappears-For-Weeks-Atta-Time
Plagiarist Paul
Someday, I will get brave and post. (Like today!)
It is Spring Break where I be. Praise Allah.
I'm here -- a grad student hopeful, staying up to hear the grown-ups talk.
ReplyDelete*raises hand* here.
ReplyDeleteHere. Checking the page for new fun snowflakery at least twice daily, as usual. Wishing I had some of my own to contribute, but simultaneously happy that I don't.
ReplyDeleteça va?
ReplyDeleteI repeatedly check the forum during the day -- the only thing that stops me from quitting this job is is seeing how much worse it elsewhere.
Done with grading, no meetings today... I've already opened a case of wine. It is going to be a great Spring Break.
I am here. I am busy dealing with an ongoing saga of drama. I want to make another smackdown video, but none of my students are so tragic they are funny.
ReplyDeleteHere, reading. I'm not in the habit of writing, but I do post every few months. Nobody that really stands out, just the usual: students who would rather drop an exam than not take their spring break a day early.
ReplyDeleteLast day before the Spring Break grading blitz (not to mention the Honey, Do list).
Ahh, the truth. 50 people who check the site constantly during the day. That's why there are so many hits. Sad, really. You 50, and then the 5 who write all the time, you might as well just read Prof Hacker instead, and the BRILIANCE that is Thomas Benton! You are refreshing your website into irrelevance. Told ya, a hundred times or more. You're welcome!
ReplyDeleteYou like Prof Hacker? He's the bad guy on my autistic four year old's favorite cartoon. I'd invite you over to play, but all of the odd behaviors that come off as tantrums would disrupt the viewing. So work on that and when you can control yourself as well as an autistic four year old, come on over. I'll make cookies.
ReplyDeleteI'm here. But, I'm in Michigan so I have to spend my time worrying about whether or not I'll have a job tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteHere, reading faithfully.
ReplyDeleteReading this damn addictive page every day.
ReplyDeleteHowdy
ReplyDeletePeep. Busy. Spring semester's like falling down a hill.
ReplyDelete@anonymous
ReplyDelete"Brilliance" has two l's.
I love it when people "guarantee" that the comments are written by "at most! - 3 people." I comment and I know two others personally. I'm married to one of them, and neither she nor I have the time to post that much, so I suppose it must be only one person doing it all. It must be nice to be young and know it all.
Your logic = Epic. Fail.
I've been reading this page and RYS for years. When I was still a textbook editor, I've learned a great deal from these pages that I could never be allowed to put into practice. I still do, but now I can post links to here to my facebook page sans fear of reprisal.
ReplyDeleteI am reading-almost daily.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDelete[comment above = grammar fail. And I want to be WINNING like Charlie Sheen with my Vatican ninja assassins. Plus I'm all Catholic and shit so that helps. Pope Benedict, he's my ninja.]
ReplyDeletePegmapress, your old profession reminded me: College Textbook Rep who rolled in AFTER the rep I actually buy from? Dude, you lose. Especially because CTR I buy from said that Atom Smasher was hot in his rugby shorts. Great lecherous minds think alike.
[And I WILL deploy my ordinance to the ground! Strelnikov! Are you there? Can you feel the ordinance?]
I'm not here. I was, but then I left. Now I'm there. But I will be back soon.
ReplyDeletePeep. Read it every day. Comment sometimes. I've recommended it to many.
ReplyDeleteI'm still reading, though not commenting as much as I once did, mostly because there's so little new material.
ReplyDeleteThis site is really such a great idea, and with 100 people signed up as writers, I don't full understand why it generates so little new material.
If each of the 100 posted something JUST once a week, we'd have 14 posts a day to read and agitate over. As it is, by my count, we've been averaging more like 3-5 a day for the last month.
Are people writers for CM who don't post? Can't we energize them to write sometimes, or replace them with people who will?
I don't comment sometimes when the comments already there sufficiently cover my own ideas.
I read it and lurk. Researcher at a lab associated with a R1 uni. Gradflake issues at the moment.
ReplyDeleteI am here, and sick as hell. Thankfully, we have spring break next week.
ReplyDelete*insert deep yet unproductive coughing fit*
Yo.
ReplyDeletePeeping in while I eat my lunch at my desk.
ReplyDeleteRed Leader: “All wings check in.”
ReplyDeleteRed 3: “Red 3 standing by.”
Red 6: “Red 6 standing by.”
Luke Skywalker: “Red 5 standing by
Dr. Jaguar: Lurking until the "burn the profs alive" rhetoric dies down
bwaah? there's an internet? no time for that. back to grading.
ReplyDeleteLong time lurker, first time commenter:
ReplyDeleteIn the great scheme of things this is probably just a flurry: When I announced that, because a class cancellation put us behind schedule, we'd likely have an exam on March 17 (which turns out to be St. Patrick's Day), it was as though I'd stabbed a puppy before their very eyes. Noting that class was over at 6:15 did not seem to help. Apparently one is a "mean prof" if one expects sobriety until 6:15 on a major drinking holiday--even one that falls just a few days after the Spring Break drink-fest.
Hello from the financial aid office! I don't have much to say, generally, but I read faithfully.
ReplyDeleteRegular reader, occasional poster. Some great correspondents in here and I just don't have the chops to keep up. But, it is fun reading and commiserating.
ReplyDeletePeep peep, mah peeps. Much lurking, occasional replying, once-in-a-while posting.
ReplyDeleteSick, overwhelmed with grading, and staggering toward spring break but reading daily and grateful for the entertainment.
ReplyDeleteI'd ask to become a poster if a space opens up. I'm an online adjunct, so I don't deal with departmental issues or deans or anything, but I have student smackdown to spare.
Still here and grading...
ReplyDeleteHere... but can't post about my current misery without outing myself..
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteHere often; usually lurking. CM keeps me sane! But I'm busy with 5 classes, a teenager and elder care. As others have said, usually my misery isn't as deep or funny as that of the regular posters. And since I don't have time to check in every day, by the time I do, maybe 78 people have already commented.
ReplyDeleteLong long time lurker here. Like several years. I have twice the misery because I teach both high school and Community college. This place has literally saved my sanity on more than one occasion.
ReplyDeletePeep! I'm one of those people whose names you see all the time, but do take a day off now and then. Will post soon, but, like several others, don't want to dilute the quality by posting something lame just for the sake of posting.
ReplyDeleteI'm traveling like a maniac this term to gather as much evidence as possible during my 3 month "sabbatical." The experience itself is worth a post -- my uni has allowed certain profs win a half-term off if they teach an intense half-term when they return.
ReplyDeleteI think, so far, it just cheats everyone involved. But will post anew in a month.
Just back from a spring break without internet (gasp, sputter!) and midterm grades due in a few days...
ReplyDeleteStill digging myself out of the giant hole I fell into a little over a month ago. Today is the first day I've had a few minutes to read. I'm sure I'll have more of The Misery to share by the end of the week when my grades post. I have a good plagiarism story but not enough time to do it justice right now.
ReplyDeleteJust back from an internet-free vacation myself.
ReplyDelete3-5 posts a day is just fine with me. Reg, what are you, an addict?
