Will You Take Her Seriously?

She has a business plan. That's a start.

  1. Pole dancing requires an enormous amount of strength and skill to do well. Probably none of the women pictured are going to do it in public for money. They are doing it to get in shape and have more confidence. That's great.

On the other hand, if a woman pole dances naked for money while men look at her and stuff bills in her thong and beat off, I find that pretty abhorrent.

  3. Really, Stella? More than if a woman pastes on a big smile and makes coffee for an exec? Or waitresses at a place where she has to wear a mini-skirt? Or finds herself doing extra office hours because her students treat her like mommy?

There are all kinds of jobs that require women to sell their gender/sexuality, in one form or another. I'm not into picking on sex workers.

  4. Stella, if guys are putting a buck in her g string, where else will they beat off, if not on the other hand?

F&T, nobody's rubbing one out while being served a cup of coffee,* so I can understand Stella's point.

    * At least, I've never seen that on the internet.

Yes, really. I think sex work is anti-woman, and anti-feminist, and I have all sorts of reasons for that which go beyond the scope of this blog. I know not all feminists feel that way about sex work, but I do. I don't like the fact that men pay for it any better. I think it's bad for women and bad for men and bad for male/female relationships in general.

But for the record there's a lot of job titles I find more disgusting.

  6. Oh, well, I guess you haven't served coffee as a woman, Beaky. Because believe me, guys rub one out to women doing all kinds of things.

OK, Stella, agree to disagree. Let's not go there.

  7. Dr. NN, let me know if this ploy to get more underwear ads on CM works.

  8. Frog...good point about the waitressing. I've been waitressing while going to grad school and have been humped and groped. I think that it something to do with the subservient role of waitresses, which makes them seem available to their customers.

I don't have a problem with sex workers either. I think that the stigma associated with sex work is more damaging to women then sex for cash male/female dynamic it promotes.

  9. I've taken a pole dancing class. It was really fun but difficult and left me with aching muscles and bruised all over. Nothwithstanding, I would do it more if there were classes locally. But get on a stage in front of people? No. Then again, I can't imagine doing Zumba in public either.

  11. I've taken pole dancing classes as well. (Don't ever intend to dance in public.) It's not as easy as it looks!
