Fab's 6 year old desktop computer took its last breath today. He's at Best Buy right now attempting to negotiate the blue shirted devils down on a new unit.
Expect much gnashing of teeth and swirling of absinthe.
Meanwhile, I'm running the site from a fucking phone. What has this world come to?
Ditto on age of computer. And I don't have a smartphone. But I do have an even older backup computer, which works just fine until it overheats and shuts down with no warning.
Hmm. . .maybe if someone raised proffies' salaries we'd inject a bit of the result back into the economy in the form of computer-buying? It's a thought.
Fab has my sympathies. I was just beginning to think the Windows 7 they installed on the lab computers over the summer isn't that bad (I like the file navigation system -- well, now that I've figured it out), and now I'm told there's a new, completely different-looking/acting, system out. Maybe I'll just stick with XP for another decade or so.
And the phone may well be more powerful (at least in some ways) than the 6-year-old computer. Brave/strange new world indeed.
ReplyDeleteA six-year-old desktop? How many dog years is that?
ReplyDeleteMay the computer rest in peace. Mine is also that old; it better not be getting any ideas.
ReplyDeleteSo you can run a site from a phone but the snowflakes can't turn shit in on time or RTFS online.

Hey Pat, sorry, but I took your comment down. Fab wanted to make sure the troll's name didn't appear anywhere on the page for a bit. Thanks.

PS: Fab found the last Windows 7 HP Pavilion on the planet apparently. He can't get it to work.

DeleteThat's OK and totally understandable. I pushed my luck a bit by doing the same earlier yesterday.
DeleteGet a Mac.
