I have to prioritize! |
But, look at it from our perspective: if we have class from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. then work from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. that only leaves three hours for homework if we go to bed by midnight. If we have four assignments due the next day and only two of them are for a grade, it is logical to spend the extra time on an assignment you are getting something out of.

Welcome to the real world, kid.
ReplyDeleteBut, look at it from our perspective: you have much to learn, grasshopper.
ReplyDeleteWould they learn better in a forced-labor camp?
ReplyDeleteTHAT can be arranged.
He would turn the place into an episode of Hogan's Heroes.
DeleteCan you IMAGINE this FOOL in any position of real RESPONSIBILITY, such as an air-traffic controller, cardiac surgeon, or nuclear-plant operator?!? God in Heaven help anyone who hires this little shit for a job like that.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was teaching at (YP)^2 College (its unofficial motto was "You Pay, You Pass"), I used that same argument for maintaining standards and failing students who don't meet them.
DeleteThe reaction was either dead silence or a quiet threat along the lines of: "If you know what's good for you...." For some strange reason, the administrators couldn't understand why I wasn't wildly enthusiastic.

ReplyDeleteI don't get the logic. If the assignment is graded, and if the grade is your ultimate concern, and if it then doesn't matter with respect to your bottom line if you do the assignment or not, what's the beef?
ReplyDeleteI'm at a very middling regional uni, with kids who have part-time jobs on or off campus, full class schedules, social or Greek life, and I tell you, baby, NONE of them ever appear busy. I'm sorry. Maybe I woke up on the wrong side of the tenure this morning, but I'm fed up all the way.
ReplyDeleteI think I see the problem. "If we have class from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m." You got 2-3 good hours of prime study time in the morning, kiddo. Drag yourself out of bed and do your studying then. My day is a quarter of the way over by 10 am.
ReplyDeleteand the whole we have class from 10-3 EVERyDAY is probably BS anyway. We have almost no classes after 1:50 (unless you have a science lab) and you don't have those EVERDAY. And even if you have classes from 10-3, I seriously doubt most students have a full five hours of nonstop classes, so likely there is time to do work during the day too. I also woke up on the wrong side of tenure. One of my flakes was particularly flakey yesterday and I am COUNTING DOWN the days until my sabbatical starts.
