Spammy Comments...Explanation.

VERY occasionally, the Blogger software takes a perfectly reasonable comment that someone posts and puts it in a spam folder. (A total of about 15 times over the first 9-10 weeks or so.)

I have to be actually on my own Blogger account to see this has happened, but when I do, I just mark it as "not spam" and it goes up where the commenter intended.

None of this happens as part of any kind of conspiracy against you, nor does it make me a "fucking asshole."

Fab!

  1. I knew you were deleting my comments!

  2. It mystifies me how fucking ungrateful people are, how fucking rude, and how little appreciation there is for someone like Fab who - I think - is trying to help the page work against all kinds of odds.

  3. Yeah: go, Fab. You rule. I'm pretty sure nobody hates you, and I don't think that can be said for the rest of us (maybe Stella?).

  4. It would be interesting to know what the hell is going on in some folk's minds. Blogger has a spam filter; why don't they? Sorry you're being attacked, Fab, and thanks for taking the hit for the rest of us!

Incidentally, I think you would be entirely justified in blocking permanently anyone who sends you email calling you a fucking asshole, and saving yourself (and us) future aggravation. They are unlikely, after all, ever to say anything worth reading.

  5. Alright I'll confess. I did send an angry email to the CM email about my comments not showing up.

But I think I just called you an asshole. Maybe not.

But look at the evidence for this. I posted a comment. I got the "Your comment has been posted," but when I checked a couple of seconds later, it was not there.

I had to type my comment again (it wasn't long), and pressed POST COMMENT again. Again it said it had been poste and again it wasn't there.

I assumed that you were reading my comments, and then deleting them.

Now that would be an assholey thing to do, and I felt obliged to call you on it.

So, it wasn't you doing it, and that's my bad for all that.

But maybe you should turn that spam thing off and simply moderate every comment. That;d be easier on everyone.

  6. Give me the physical addresses of anybody who calls you a fucking asshole, Fab. I'll rip their arms off and beat them over the head. Or, just be "nice" and do what Merely Academic suggested.

    Mathsquatch out.

  7. Well, then, it's PoPo who is the asshole.

  9. Oh fergodsake, PoPo, you assume technical problems are always the fault of the user and never of the program, and react immediately with accusations rather than inquiries? You call Fab an asshole and then after a lame-ass "apology," in which you make excuses for yourself, demand that he moderate each and every comment?

Snowflakery, pure snowflakery, never mind assholery. Call me a bitch again any day; I'm proud to be in Fab's company.

  10. No problem here. I am cool with PoPo. Truly. I was unaware of how the spam filter worked at first.

I have not been able to figure out why it seems to nab some comments and not others, but it's happened quite infrequently.

Now that I know the spam filter occasionally delays a comment, I'll make sure to check that folder whenever I'm online ruining the graphics (which is what I believe is my bounden duty, per RYS's great graphic successes)!

In a related note, feel free to send me an email to the college misery email (use the "email us" link in the sidebar) if you have ideas or suggestions for making the page as good as it can be.

    Holler,
    Fab

  11. If you're cool with PoPo ... otherwise, I'd be joining in with Marcia. Frankly, I'm too busy to sit at the computer waiting for someone to read my comments and delete them, probably with an evil "Muahahahahaaaa!" thrown in for jazz. So I don't assume that it's personal if my comments disappear into Wonderland. It really isn't all about me. :) :) :) Fab, thanks for all you do!
