A link, a link, a marvelous link!

This story caught my eye.

Investigators say dean made students do housework for scholarships

The comedy vain is rich. I've got to run off an teach class but my first thoughts are:

If she did that to students, I'm really afraid for what she did to the poor faculty.

You would actually let a student handle your money and food?

You can't do that sort of thing with university funds. Get a government research grant, for goodness sakes.

  1. I did grocery shopping for the chair as part of my TA "duties." It happened just a couple of times, but I didn't tell anyone till I did my anonymous exit survey after my diploma was in hand.

  2. You didn't catch the New York Post/Fox News version of the story where the headlines blared "DEAN KEPT STUDENT SLAVES." Actually, the real sad bit is that one foreign exchange student (the "maid") was afraid she could no longer attend the school because Dean Chang was in the slam.

  3. One of the colorful drunken writer/professors where I went to grad school used students as valets because he was drunk and had had his license revoked. He was also tenured and a powerful draw to the program, even though he did little teaching. Funny guy. Scary too.
