Saturday snowflake rant

I gave one struggling student an extension on the final exam. I was following all that talk the administration gives us about "Save just one more student so we can do better on our retention and productive grade rates." I just got a call from the testing center. The student walked in and attempted to drop the course online AT THE EXAM. When he couldn't do so, he made them call me to ask if I would do it. So yes, the testing center called me at home, on a Saturday morning, to ask me why Snowiest Snowflake could not drop himself and request me to "take care of it." Our drop date is already way too late in my opinion (three weeks before finals), but Super Snowy told me he was going to finish the course no matter what it took. He was quite peeved when the nice lady at the testing center told him he could not drop and had two choices: take an automatic F or take the test and take his chances.
