Thank you Board of Trustees

The article in Inside Higher Education yesterday on bonus rather than salary increases reminded me of the recent goings on at the University of Kentucky. As posted earlier here, the outgoing president just got a 150,000 raise while for “his extraordinary work”. The Board of Trustees made some real boners when it came to justifying the raise.

Helping to ease the pain of this slap in the face to all faculty and staff (with no raises for three years) has been this YouTube video of the situation complete with Edith Piaf soundtrack.

Makes the bitter pill of academic reality at Kentucky (the admins continue to benefit while those who actually work with students suck it up) a bit easier to handle.

  1. I stand by my comment on the previous UK post. IF the faculty are getting 80% of the average faculty salary of top research schools, then the president should get the same.

Who cares if faculty haven't gotten a raise in 3 years? Their salaries are measured based on other (better) schools' research output. They are still overpaid.

  2. Have him shot, divy up his salary and give it to the instructors, find somebody cheaper.
