More End of the World Shit.

Rutgers pays Snooki more than Toni Morrison

Question: Who's worth more as a college speaker - Jersey Shore star Snooki or Nobel-winning Toni Morrison?
Answer: Snooki!
That's the deal at Rutgers, reports NJ.com. The Rutgers University Programming Association paid Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi $32,000 Thursday to offer important advice on her hairstyle, fist pumps, as well as the GTL — gym, tanning, laundry — lifestyle.
And that's $2,000 more than the $30,000 the university is paying Morrison to deliver Rutgers' commencement address in May.

    Ka-ching! That'll be $32,000 please!

  5. Playing Devil's Advocate here...

Graduation ceremonies are thought to be "compulsory." You can't force someone to go to Snooki's Nookie Party even if they've already paid for it.

Snooki has a better agent than Toni Morrison.

And it's not like any of this is new. My alma mater paid mid-six figures for a big-time artiste that performed both kinds of music- country AND western- the same year a US President gave the commencement address for a significantly smaller fee.

  6. Oh really?

I bet this makes Rutgers employees feel really special. (For those who don't know, the Rutgers administration has reneged on negotiated pay rises at the very last minute in each of the last two years, pleading poverty.)

  7. Who's Toni Morrison?

  8. Did Snooki's family donate the money specifically to pay for this? If not and I were a donor to Rutgers, I'd never give them another cent.

OTOH, I can't see paying Toni Morrison 30K to give a speech, either. Teach a workshop over a longer period of time, maybe. Give one speech? Nope.

  9. For a nice laugh, have a look at the reviews for the book Terry linked under "Snooki."

  10. I'm with Stew and Stella: this is a really stupid thing to do given the current fiscal situation in most states. It's not going to make faculty, university employees, students, parents, donors, or taxpayers happy, and, because of that, it makes the university vulnerable. I begrudge Morrison a lot less than I do Snooki (the woman paid her dues, and she is, after all, a Nobel-prize-winning author. There are only so many of those around. Also, she's a good speaker). And I know that the agent and the IRS will both take their cut. But that does sound more like seminar/extended workshop than speech money (and I'm pretty sure that Snooki, unlike Morrison, couldn't generate enough substance for more than an "appearance." In fact, I wonder whether she's up to a full-fledged speech.)

  11. Somehow, leaving Rutgers while on academic probation in the last century no longer seems like such a bad thing.

  12. I much prefer Morrison's hairdo. Maybe they gave Snooki an extra $2000 so that she could afford to see Morrison's hairstylist.

  13. Another brute force solution:

Force Snookie to fight in Afghanistan or drop her on Quadhafi....sentence the entire Rutgers UPA to sixty years forced labor in Siberia or two weeks straight at the Fukushima Dai-ichi plants.

  14. Oh, come on, people! Didn't Snooki write Snooki, Song of Snooki, Star Baby, The Bluest Eyeshadow, and Bedazzled? The lady deserves her dues.
