Greetings this fine Tuesday morning. Anyone else staring down a stack of steaming papers/finals that they detest more than their students do?
I am new here and just want to say hello and thank the founders of this blog for a *much* needed space to fore-head slap collectively about some of the hijincks of higher ed. I am currently an adjunct for a community college (got a bit tired of teaching the same students at the R1 university where my husband is completing his degree) and also teach in a graduate program. I have developed a couple of graduate programs, too, for the university at which I am a graduate lecturer. No matter the context, tho', I find I am pretty burned out on being an adjunct in general... too little pay for too much work.
I am sure this comic strip has made the rounds (I need to get caught up on the archive to be a more fruitful contributor) but I think it's apropos given the timing for most of us. Instructor/lecturer/part-timer works just as well as TA; I looked for a link to the original, but alas, could not find it. The hubs sent this a few years back while I was still working on my degree. Recently I was introduced to toonlet.com. A fun way to assign appropriately sub-par grades for sub-par student work. And can take the edge off any grading hang-over.
Cheers!
