An Exception to the Rule

I just had a student inform me that his grandfather died over the weekend, and that that was why his paper was a few hours (not days or weeks) late. Since he'd mentioned the situation before (as part of an exchange about scheduling a conference, not as an excuse for not completing work), I believe him. So apparently it is possible to write a paper while a grandparent is dying. Just thought y'all would like to know.

  1. Right, CC, and you also saw the Lockness Monster and Bigfoot while you were hunting snipes. Stop yanking our chain.

  3. All the EVIDENCE proves it's impossible. :o) Thanks for the laugh today.

  4. What's the big deal? Yet another example of a student lying. Nothing to see here...

  5. It's always those few honest, hardworking students that ruin it for the rest of them.....

  6. My student was so distraught when his grandparent died that he had to take a trip to Greece and miss his practicum- that he still wants credit for.

  7. Mentioned it before? That shows that it's a very well set up lie.

  8. Snipe are small, fat, and the worlds longest-fastest migrators. Explains why they're so hard to find in the middle of the night.

The Loch Ness Monster, on the other hand, I understand is fat, slow, and tastes great with BBQ sauce. Although, I didn't think Loch Ness was in Texas...

  9. I'm surprised by the doubters here. But then again, conscientiousness is not exactly a student trait that we're accustomed to. Bravo to this student for having his paper pretty much wrapped up and completed.
