Good morning Moderator: I found this article through the CBC website and thought your contributors might find it interesting - to say the least. It just so happened that I applied to Dal Grad School but was turned down; now I am thankful.
Dan Middlemiss, a Professor of Political Science for 31 years, and expert on Canadian Defence Policy has quit his job at Dalhousie due to a shortage of parking at Dalhousie University. He (lives 25 minutes away from the University by car and) claims that he had to be on the road by 6:30 or 7:00am to get a parking spot for his 2:30pm class. (Halifax transit also operates a number of bus routes in the area, with a few specifically between Sackville and Halifax.)
"Middlemiss said parking has always been a problem at Dalhousie. But this time, he simply had enough. "I went straight upstairs, I said, 'I'm not kidding this time, I don't have to put up with this. I'm resigning"' he told CBC News. But Middlemiss doesn't have to worry about the university's parking plans anymore. 'Luckily, I don't have to put up with it,' he said."
From his C.V. and using the date of his BA as a guide, it appears that he is around 64 years of age, so maybe this was his way of going out with a bang in early retirement.
QUITTER!!!
ReplyDeleteWe have the same problem at our university and I have to leave the house at 7AM (I live 25-30 minutes away from campus with no public transit) to get a parking spot. It sucks but the bills won't go away.
