An ode to Captain Subtext. I feel oddly honored. I'm glad The Captain is so enjoyed.
ReplyDeleteAcademic Monkey, when I first wrote about Captain Subtext I imagined Subtext to be a bolder, stronger version of me but decidedly male. That's because if I said those things I'd be a bitch. But if Subtext did he'd be unopposed. But that's what I *need* him to be. As we all have different needs I think The Captain would naturally fulfill that need. So have at your firewoman Captain Subtext dreams.
Meh, the only reason we ever saw The Captain as male was . . . well, see above. Of course, that mug shot is delightfully ambiguous, so feel free to apply your own impressions and/or ideas!
