Hi, everyone! Long time no see.
It's mid-semester, and the snowflakes are coming out of the woodwork like crazy! I have been having all kinds of wAckY conversations with my undergrads lately.
A lot of them seem to be really worried about whether I like them. So weird! Why do they all want my approval? I think they're fine.
I mean, they're undergraduates.
They're behaving just as I expect. You know, with the "normal" range of behaviors. Behaviors that yield grades ranging from A to F.
Anyway, here's a cartoon version of a conversation I had the other day with a student who showed up after missing umpteen classes. Click on the image to see a larger version of it.
Enjoy--or, um, not! Cuz unlike my snowflakes, I don't really care if all y'all like me :)
Sam -- whether you care or not, I've been wondering where you are, and am absolutely delighted to see you back (and yes, that means I like you -- or at least your persona on this site, and, most of all, your cartoons).
ReplyDeleteThanks, CC! I like you too. :)
ReplyDeleteI've had a really bad few months, actually, but I'm back to doodling again--at least for now.
Wonderful to see your return!
ReplyDeleteOh, the secret revealed is the best part of all!!
ReplyDeleteO hai Sam. So nice to see you.
ReplyDeleteI loathe this "please don't tell me I'm a bad person" attitude toward excuse-making. Whatever. You're not my friend. Do you plead with the janitor to still like you when you pour coffee into the water fountain? Explain to your athletic coach that you are still a good person when you screw up a play? Newsflash, kids: professors think well of you when you do good work and show responsibility. Otherwise, we're not that impressed.
Yea! Nice to see you.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sam. As usual I'm strongly tempted to post this one, but I may just forward a copy to my colleagues to use as they see fit.
