Not my job anymore

Sweet.

Got one of those typical letters from the vice president who spent the last two weeks on vacation and missed all the fun. "Dear Dean Suzy, I have a delegation of carpet weavers coming next Thursday, can you give them a talk about the weaving management program and show them through the weaving labs? I have you down for 2-5pm."

My answer: Hi Veep! I'm no longer dean. I do hamster fur weaving. And I'm booked on Thursday teaching anyway. Love and kisses, Just Plain Suzy.

  1. That's not just sweet--that's fancy sweet. That's sweet with raisins in it. (Apologies to Dorothy Parker)

  2. It's a bit staggering actually, that a Dean can bail, and a VP isn't in the know about it. That says a lot about that particular university's administration.

As I said in an earlier comment, enjoy being "Just Plain Suzy"!

  3. The next Veep email will read "Can you do it anyway?"

  4. I think Middle-Aged has it (maybe with a "just this once" thrown in).
Anyway, Suzy, it's always good to hear how things are going in the Square State world.

  6. Seconding Dr. Cranky, MM&M and EC1 (teaching is very, very important, you know. . .unless your commitment to it actually inconveniences a VP). I hope your successor is too busy learning the ropes to say yes, either.

  7. I'm curious to know...what was their response?

  8. Middle-Aged and Morose nailed it: Except he didn't ask himself, he had his secretary ask pretty please 'cause this is such an important delegation. What a shame that my successor has an out-of-town appointment that day. And he hasn't been able to find an associate dean yet - no one willing to touch that with a 10-foot pole. And the administrative assistant is, of course, no longer there. Me? I'm teaching.

    Let's have a pity party!
