Of course he can write what he wants, but I agree with another comment elsewhere that his handling of his punishment reveals that he's just a total douchebag.
It's like, "If my unwanted sexual power was not appropriate, then, hey, I should save it for another professor."
Oh, and some of the things he likes or links to on Facebook just make me nauseous.
Creepiness concurred, but I fail to see the threat, or the broken rule. Several modern social lines were certainly crossed, but the closest thing I find to a rule transgression is intimidation. College students have been falling in love with professors for ages, not very many of them get charged with intimidation, certainly few of the ones who's infatuation only comes out in writing.
And the concealed carry/gun thing is a smoke screen. Unless advocating for a potential change in the law is a problem in itself.
He's a creep. He's demonstrated his creepiness in the open, all the better for the rest of us. Knowledge of his existence makes me feel a bit icky. But that's not a basis to take judicial action against him.
OK, this post made no sense to me until I scrolled down to the earlier post and followed the links. (The trouble with recent posts being at the top I suppose.)
The problem with this guy is that he's fallen into the "All geniuses are criticized; I was criticized; Therefore I am a genius!" fallacy. He thinks he's the re-incarnation of Charles Bukowski, Hunter S. Thompson and Dog only knows who else, just because he writes about his hard on and encounters criticism.
I read that whole damned mead composition book. Seems like three pages were torn out of it, after which he wrote a verbatim transcript of his teacher's notice to him telling him his writing was inappropriate, and that he should never, ever do it again. Apparently he also called her house.
Of course I don't know if any of that happened, because all that's in there is his own writing. But he is a bona-fide creep. God. What a total creep. Sleazy, creepy creep. Barf. Ick.
I think the issue here is whether or not he was warned. I don't think what he's written is threatening; it's merely disgusting. But then there are those missing pages...
If he was warned about his behavior and continued it, then there is merit in his dismissal. If this was the first time anyone saw it, and there was nothing worse than what he wrote, he needed to be brought up short as to what is and isn't appropriate, but not dismissed from the university. It seems like he may have a history of this sort of thing, so that may be a factor as well.
As for the gun thing, he is indeed entitled to his opinion. Unless he threatens someone, he shouldn't be penalized for having one.
It seems to me that more support should have been offered to his female instructors by the university, and that if it had been, this might not have blown up as it did. I wonder how many of them were tenure-track and how many of them were sessionals (adjuncts).
I can't see any of the pictures or see the links because I avoided Facebook entirely....I just feel that this whole thing has been a judgement of Skeeze-Americans. And Skeeze-Americans made this country great - think of the stuff we would have missed if people like Larry Flynt, Peter Bogdanovich, Woody Allen, Allen Ginsberg, Bob Crane, and many others had been kept from the levels of skeeziness they needed to succeed.
Okay, I've read all the links now.
ReplyDeleteI just feel so dirty.

Dear Joe,
ReplyDeleteWelcome to the internet; you're my kind of troll.

Hey, I thought AdBlock was supposed to get rid of all the porn!

ReplyDeleteWhat, is this a response to the recent menstruation thread? Guys, that ass looks much too young for most of you.
ReplyDeleteSick puppy. Jerk. Toad. A--hole.
