Facebook users told to quit whining or get off Facebook

Mark Zuckerberg lays down a bit of smack:

“People sometimes tell me, ‘Mark, you must hate finals too — you dropped out of Harvard.’ And my response to that is, ‘Yeah, I dropped out to start a multi-billion dollar company. You guys are just lazy.’... Ever consider closing your web browser and actually doing the work that is such a burden on your life? Sometimes I feel personally guilty for creating a drain effect on the nation’s intelligence.”

  1. Wow, I'm impressed, Fab. Not five minutes after I post this (without a graphic), you've got one of our patented Bad Graphics up with it. Thanks!

  3. I agree, Frod. That asshole is not the guy I look to for advice on ethical issues or the troubles of academia.

  4. It wasn't published on April 1, but, looking at the other articles in this publication, I think it might be an Onion-wannabee (i.e. satirical/farcical rather than factual). Among other things, it claims that Zuckerberg is considering banning 18-24-year olds, his original target audience, from facebook, in order to protect American higher ed. Not a bad idea, in some ways, but not great marketing strategy (though I think the 18-24 year olds may have moved on a bit anyway).

But the principle holds true, which means that this 40+ year old needs to get off the internet and back to grading papers.

  5. This article's actually from last December, if I recall correctly. It was written during students' actual finals period and circulated around Facebook for a week or so, with people unsure whether or not it was a parody. It was.

    1. What's that line? Something about "If it's not true, it should be"?

      Oh well...

  6. The Miami Flipside is a satirical publication centered around the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida. All articles are written by students.

Names and quotes that appear in these stories are completely made up, except in the case of some public figures, where the names are real but the quotes are not. Remember, these are all jokes.

  7. Ya, I was definitely hunting for that April 1 date on the by-line. Nice send up - maybe we should offer them honourary membership here at the Misery.
