More Luncheon Follies

One of my students came into class after lunch. She said she'd wanted some peace and solitude, so decided to eat in her car (shout out to Greta!). She was reading whilst dining, and enjoying her quiet time. She looked up at one point and noticed a young man sitting in a car facing hers. He smiled; she smiled and turned back to her book. As she was reading, she felt like she was being watched. She looked up and, sure enough, the young man was looking at her again. She smiled; he smiled; she turned back to her book. This exchange continued a couple more times--he was cute, she said. Why not? Then she looked up again, he was still staring at her. And smiling. She then noticed...movement. The back of a head, moving. Up and down. Between the young man and his steering wheel. My student slid down in her seat and raised her book to block the view. Although she did admit to peeking when she heard the car doors slamming--she wanted to see if the partly seen party was a classmate.

  1. Very nice of him to display this behavior prior to the potential first date.

  2. We were recently e-mailed a picture of a "suspicious person observed on campus" captured by a parking lot security cam. The detail was substantial - I am guessing enough detail to pick the person out from a line up.

I will not be surprised if the activity above has made its way to youtube by now. At the very least, it gave security some interesting viewing.

  3. I am always in a good mood in the morning until I drive into the school's parking lot. The parking lot is a free for all. Students drive like it is demolition derby and there is no telling what is going on in their cars. Everybody is sitting in the driver's seat with their music blasting. I have always thought, "How hard is it to go to class early or to the library?"

  4. There were smoking kiosks installed in our parking lots a couple of years ago. Two young women took advantage of the support structure to entertain select groups with their stripper routines. Sometimes it's better if they stay in their cars.
