Subject: paycheck forthcoming?
Hi!
I hope you are the correct contact person for payroll issues. If not, can you please direct me to the correct individual? Thanks.
I am one the DE embedded librarians. According to the pay schedule, I thought I should have been paid starting 9/14/2012. When that didn't happen, I thought that perhaps I got moved to the late start 10/12/2012 pay date. However, as of today, I have not yet been paid. Can you please check to see if I am on the pay roll and if so, when I should be expecting a paycheck?
Thank you so much for checking.
Sincerely,
WouldLikeToBePaid

I haven’t received any pay statements for her in the last couple
months or more. It appears that whoever generates them did not send one to me to
get her pay process going.

#2,
Will
you follow up with whoever would generate those? I don’t know if it is a DE
thing or a library thing. This employee has been without pay for a while. Will
you take a deeper look for us? Thanks.

RandomLady#2,
Could you create the appropriate pay statement for WouldLikeToBePaid and send it my
way?

I
apologize profusely, but it appears we had a miscommunication in the Extended
Campus, and none of our Embedded Librarians have been paid for Fall. I am
preparing the appropriate pay statements right now and will send them to you
within the next 30 minutes or less.
Thanks,

I really have no idea why I should be CC'd about this matter. I am just an Associate Faculty member and have nothing to do with Payroll.
Sincerely,
EMH
This evokes the image of Oliver Twist holding out his bowl: "Please, sir, may I have some more?"
ReplyDeleteI have never spent so much time on a CM post and been so far away from figuring out what the fuck it's about.
ReplyDeleteSomehow, payroll felt it necessary to CC ME about this debacle!
DeleteLOL, Reg, me, too!
DeleteEMH: I hope YOU are at least being paid!
Because if you're not being paid, who knows WHO you need to email! :o)
DeleteI'm sure they meant to CC EHM or something. But I find it fascinating none-the-less. What's more interesting, that they're so incompetant that they "forgot" to pay all of the librarians, or that academics and academic support staff are so routinely abused that only ONE of the librarians bothered to ask about it, and not until after missing TWO payroll start dates?
ReplyDeleteDang! Back in the day, when I first came to the states as Visiting Assistant Subhuman Associate lecturer my first paycheck didn't arrive on time. My supervisor (loved the guy) told me not to teach until I received the dough.
ReplyDeleteHmm. . .this sort of thing must be in the air. I got an email earlier this year from a "do not reply" address (probably an automated system of some sort) asking me to submit someone's timesheet, so (s)he could be paid. Problem: I don't supervise anyone. But of course I was concerned that someone's timesheet was missing, which meant (s)he wouldn't be paid, so I forwarded the email to our very efficient department manager (who handles similar matters in our department), and asked if she could please make sure a relevant person was alerted to the problem. She forwarded the message to said relevant person, cc'ing me, and I think I got cc'd once or twice more along the way before the exchange ended.
ReplyDeleteThe other key difference here, of course, is that my institution *knew* it had an employee for which it didn't have a timesheet, and was actually looking for said timesheet. An employee having to ask is more alarming (and definitely more alarming, in the larger scheme of things, than staying on a cc list once one accidentally gets involved in an email exchange. That's annoying, but pretty common).
