Sunday afternoon at Chez Amelia

Part of my continuing campaign to educate my children about the glamorous life of the academic...

Dr. Amelia: "Progeny, tell me I can do this."

Progeny: "Mom, you can do anything. What are you doing anyway?"

Dr. Amelia  "Grading 61 papers."

Progeny: "Why do you want to grade 61 papers?"

Dr. Amelia: "Because I have to give halfway grades no later than Friday, and I will get 25 midterms, 25 quizzes, and (adding in head) 72 papers to grade between Tuesday and Thursday. "

Progeny: "Oh. So you mean because your life sucks."

Dr. Amelia: "Pretty much."

  1. You have some smart progeny there, Amelia. With any luck, they'll figure out something better to do with themselves than be academics.

  2. Oy! Please tell me you are only grading (not commenting on) them. Otherwise, I think we need to contact the UN office of human rights. Surely this is a violation of some sort.

  3. I'm tempted to ask you for offsite contact info so I can send to Progeny admissions materials, but then students like Progeny don't attend this school.... back to my grading.
