And the ads are offering me girls who live near me in any age group > 18 I prefer. Is there any way to check "serious ads only"? Or is this just because of the link "Stat Porn"?
This weekend we bought a new Lexus and a ton of stuff from Bed Bath Beyond, and I have two ads in the border, one for Lexus and one for Bed Bath Beyond. I almost always see something in the sidebar ads that matches something I've been searching for or reading about.
At the last minute I decided to go to Boston next week for the MLA, and after I booked my tickets I had a slew of Boston themed ads.
Well at least Ded Moroz didn't show up at your house, drink all the vodka, pee in the red corner while Snegurochka acted all slutty and then ZAP-ZABOOM!! they both frigging vanished, leaving behind Volga GAZ-21 parts in grimy boxes.
I love Merely Academic, truly, so you were just being funny, right? I mean, you don't actually know who Taylor Swift is?
I have some colleagues who I'd like to blow up with some Soviet-era explosive who say things like this all the time: "Oh, the Super Bowl? Is that a soccer game?" or "They made a movie out of Batman? How silly."
It's a ruse they use. Now I don't know Merely Academic at all, except for what's on the page, but seriously, I hope you're just pulling our leg.
Led Zeppelin is in the sidebar for me today. Have you heard of them?
Of course I know Led Zeppelin, Hiram. I know ALL of Led Zeppelin. I own every album Led Zeppelin ever put out, though sadly, only on iTunes. I sing along with Led Zeppelin. I was in high school with Led Zeppelin was in their prime. I am not against music or rock music; I just haven't listened to much that's been produced since, oh, the 80s.
But I don't know much about Taylor Swift. It was disingenuous of me to say "who is Taylor Swift?" Of course I know she's a singer. I don't know any of her songs except "you belong with me"? I liked that one. Conventional, pits women against each other which I always hate, and I always sympathize with the poor cheerleader, who for all we know is hopelessly in love with the football hero too but her momma makes her wear those conservative clothes and those silly shoes and, like the singer, she is hoping that the way she looks and dresses is / will be the right things to get the boy to love her. And the self-righteous " I wear sneakers so I'm better than her" is just as mean as the "I'm the cheerleader so I'm better than her", though maybe forgivable because the singer feels so hopelessly intimidated by the cheerleader. But it's a very catchy tune, lively and energetic.
I do know a lot of Adele, because I heard her once and said "wow, who's that?" - amazing voice and I CAN get behind her lyrics, which aren't mean-spirited at all - but I haven't really had the same experience with Taylor Swift. My 14 year old cool-hunter daughter doesn't like her as much as, who is it, Pink, but they aren't really doing the same thing. I like Pink.
But really all I know about Taylor Swift is what I read on the front of the tabloids as I get my groceries. She seems to be there pretty often. She's very pretty.
I had a look here just now because it was linked by Dr Tingle. My point was not so much "I am above knowing much about Taylor Swift" - though, to be honest, very likely I do feel that way, because while I bounce along to the cheerleader song I don't like it and I don't like the attitude behind it. I don't feel as if I'm above knowing much about Adele, though: I'm humbled that I don't know more than I do about Adele's music, because what I've heard is awesome. And surely taste is the only thing worth quarrelling about?
What I don't know, in particular, about Taylor Swift is why I would get an ad to her in the top right corner of my page - what is there in my posts, or my google history, that would make Google think I would be susceptible to that ad? I was wondering if that was the default ad, if they didn't have anything else to go on.
