Duke students have been using one-ply? Really? With the amount of money they pay, you would have thought three- or four-ply (maybe even someone to wipe for them).
The bathrooms in my office building near classrooms have plush 2 ply paper. The bathroom in the faculty area has one ply, and is usually as messy as any Trailways depot bathroom you've ever seen.
UNC-Chapel Hill has quite nice bathrooms, at least in the areas I visited (fancy water-saving variable-flush levers, among other things). I can't speak to Duke.
A number of years ago I spent a week at Duke researching their writing program, and every building I was in (dorms, classrooms, and administration) had peerless bathroom facilities. It was something George Costanza would have raved about.
And I thought I had a filthy, dirty, shitty administration!
