I'm not working Christmas day asking if they wanted to make that a combo or pointing people to the restroom.
Yes, that's the well-preserved 1970s shag carpet under my desk. Now, get those grades turned in!
I would love to give Leslie K. a hug. Is there a line?
Higher education gave me the day off. OK, it gave me a job in which I can take a day off and nobody cares enough to find out where I am. Probably because they took the day off too.
Higher education made me realize that even though I want something ready 18 days from now, just a very small task to do that needs to be done by office staff, all the university offices close early in about 15 minutes and won't re-open until the day before I want this thing done. So, it might not get done in time.
What has higher education done for you today?-I'm a non-traditional student taking a few community college classes for personal enrichment and finding a job. The college is closed today, but the bookstore e-mailed and wished us all a happy holiday.Did it give you a carpet burn?-There is no carpet in the classroom.Did it make you feel colorful?-The classes I'm taking focus on digital media, so yes. Unfortunately, I am more technical than artistic.Did it make you feel old?-Yes. The young, just-out-of-high-school college students can be loud, obnoxious, rude, and completely out of touch with reality and their responsibilities. Just a decade or so ago, I was their age, but they make me feel older and more mature. Even when I was their age, I can't imagine acting afool as they do. I want to go Dr. Phil on them, slap them upside the heads, and yell "WTH is wrong with you!? Have you lost all sense of human decency!?" Did it make you feel like a bug in a rug?-Like a flea? No.Did it make you want to give Leslie K a hug?-Sure as long as she wishes it. Society today discourages human contact, it seems. Are you too numb to know?-Not yet.
It has given me until Jan 6th to get some research done (statistically significant better half and kids notwithstanding).
I may or may not have gotten an offer today that I may or may not have accepted. Which means I may or may not be moving 800 miles away from friends and family. I may or may not be freaking out about the idea of such a big change....But not being an adjunct is good, right?
Possible congratulations. We've had long and fraught discussions about such prospects here on CM. Wish I could direct you to them.
Indeed, congratulations (or not?). Hopefully the new place is close to an airport.
It is a great opportunity! I have a few months to wrap my head around such a big move!
Higher education allowed me to get a job in higher education that gave me both the pay and the time off to support my local independent bookstore today. Wish I'd had enough money and time to support it all afternoon and well into next week.
As for rug burn, there was a nice-looking man who kept smiling my way at the bookstore. Ah, if only I hadn't been shopping for my husband and kids.
You're shopping for husband and kids at an indie bookstore? I had no idea they sold family members there.I've always ordered such from amazon.
How are the reviews?
