Ben Edelman is an associate professor at Harvard Business School, where he teaches in the Negotiation, Organizations & Markets unit.
Ran Duan manages The Baldwin Bar, located inside the Woburn location of Sichuan Garden, a Chinese restaurant founded by his parents.
Last week, Edelman ordered what he thought was $53.35 worth of Chinese food from Sichuan Garden’s Brookline Village location.

Apparently this particular b-school professor was absent the day they discussed cost-benefit analyses. Either that, or he values his own time very little.
ReplyDeleteDuan, on the other hand, sounds like a very reasonable guy.
This is particularly true since it's now ALL OVER THE INTERNET. Jeez, would you buy a pound of flesh from this guy? Duan, on the other hand, sounds like a very reasonable guy.
DeleteBest guess: he's unhappy about something else in his life, over which he has little to no control, and decided to fixate on this. If so, bad decision.
DeleteOr maybe he's just suffering from Harvarditis: yes, it's pretty good school, but there are others. Three degrees from the place, plus working there, seems excessive (and a bit parochial).
It's also, unfortunately, very Harvard to see yourself as sticking up for/representing the little guy (the consumer, in this case) while giving an actual little guy a hard time, and generally making a monumental ass of yourself.
Yeah, he's an asshole but what got my attention was receiving his numerous degrees then working at the same school. WTF harvard? You're the only place that hires your grads?
DeleteAs Tom Paxton says, "Some people you don't have to satirize. You just quote 'em."
ReplyDeleteThat is just perfect.
