Midwestern SLAC. Less than 200 proffies. In the last few months one has been accused of a serious Title IX violation, and another is being investigated for downloading kiddie porn to his school computer.
What the hell is wrong with people?
I wish I had confidence that our feckless leadership could get us through this storm, but I don't.

"Feckless leadership" is redundant ;-)
ReplyDeleteAccusations and investigations are not convictions, but a 2% "problem rate" is nevertheless troubling, but then again 2 within a certain period could be a simple Texas Sharpshooter cluster (statistical noise) against a relatively silent background. Glass half full: 98% of faculty are clean! Or, just better at avoiding accusation.
I know of cases of kiddie porn appearing on computers as a result of other people having access to the computer, or it having been infected with malware. When the web was relatively new in the 1990s, I checked the browser history of my own school office desktop and discovered it was twice used after-hours to visit porn sites ("legit", i.e. not kiddie). Suspects included houskeeping and my office mate, but I decided not to pursue it beyond password-protecting the computer.
