Darla.

Darla sends along a note to tell us that she's been offered and has accepted a new job at a SLAC in the northwest. She reported a bit on these pages about her job search earlier.

"I am humbled that after more than a few years stuck in a job, I've been able to move to a position that will provide me some new challenges. And all of it takes place in an area where hubby is happy to explore, too."

Congrats, Darla!

  3. Congratulations and all of that.

    Now, bring back the shorts.

  4. Does anyone think it's comments like Slave's that encouraged Darla to give up her posting rights in the first place. I think so at least.

Congrats, Darla. I remember your earlier posts and could tell that you worked very hard at your job. I hope this move will be a good one.

  7. It's nice when people I know (even if only electronically) get hired to do stuff. For selfish and selfless reasons, congrats, Darla!

  8. Congratulations, Darla! I'm not sure what a "SLAC" is (never have been up on all these academic acronyms, despite more than a decade in the biz), but it sounds like a good move.

  9. Small, liberal arts college. And it's in the CM Glossary on the right.

  10. Darla, send us a postcard when you get there.

  11. I didn't know Darla had given up her posting rights! I guess I missed that--good to know as I was wondering why she hadn't posted herself!

As for the shorts, if you pick an uber-sexy avatar, people will comment on it. They would have commented on it if Yaro picked an uber-sexy avatar.

    BTW--where is Yaro?

  12. Congratulations, Darla! Like BlackDog, I'm delighted for you, and also delighted to know it's possible. Your success gives me hope, so thanks for reporting it.

I hope you'll come back and post again at some point, as Darla or somebody else, with or without shorts (wait; that didn't come out quite right. I seem to remember your describing yourself as potentially looking like a "lost hippie poetess" at the MLA -- an image I enjoyed, in part because one of my smartest grad school classmates actually was a hippie poetess who returned to school after a decade or two writing and supporting herself at odd jobs. I'd be equally happy to see you return in that, or any, garb).

  15. I'm glad you got what you wanted, Darla, but with all the nonsense (and this week, outright felonious criminality) that goes with this job, do you really want it? I just sincerely hope that wherever you're going doesn't have these problems.

  16. Congratulations, Darla, and I miss you too. But I hope you have no more college misery to report, ever.

  17. Woo-hoo Darla! Yay for you! Post yourself again when you feel secure enough to do so, 'cause CM misses you.

  18. Seven days late I give my congratualtions, with the hope that the new school is far better.
