even me,
when Spring Break
meets its fulsome middle.
Between letting them loose
for March madness
and a jingly return
in still-several days,
I find that there
are still weeks of work
ahead of us.
They, all vexy and angsty,
of course,
troublemakers,
yet, like Yaro,
I find I love them.
I carry around 75 exams
over this Spring Break,
and as their names flicker
in front of my grading laser,
small memories
of their silliness,
earnestness, innocence,
glimmer up at me.
I cannot help but smile
and think about next week,
what stories they will tell,
and then back to work.

Sounds like Tingle has spring fever. I rather like this cheerful mode for a (probably brief) change.
ReplyDeleteLOVE "grading laser" and the "fulsome middle" of Spring Break week.
ReplyDeleteGood to see Dick Tingle back in the saddle.
I remember Richard's last post, about the Gabby Giffords shooting. I was worried we'd not see him again. I'm so so glad he's back with more poetry.
ReplyDeleteWe need you, Prof. Tingle...more than ever.
Optimism suits you. Perhaps you are related to Yaro. Your long-lost cousin, maybe?
ReplyDeleteSeriously, someone posts with the nick Dick Tingle? And there are no protests? He's great!
ReplyDeleteWelcome back, Herr Doktor Professor DickenTingle. We've missed you.

ReplyDeleteNice posting, RT, PhD. Alas, my students have no stories to tell of Spring Break...
ReplyDelete@honest_prof: we finished running through most of the obvious jokes about 4 Richard Tingle posts ago (but I think F&T may have come up with a new variation on his moniker).
ReplyDeleteI love Tingle. Here are my favorite earlier posts. I'll try to make them clickable, though I don't always get it correct.
