Anything Change in 31 Years?

  1. Nope. That sounds about right. Except I think that some of my students expect that treat them the same way their mother does. I'm not sure if every one gets that one these days. I've never asked.

  2. Younger female faculty can answer this better than I can, but I see them disrespected by students and faculty colleagues alike. The first name thing just is quite ingrained for the white silverbacks.

  3. It's not just younger females; older females get this too.

  4. I am in the younger female demographic, and definitely see the disparity. I get comments on my evals (funny enough, auto-correct corrects these to evils- how appropriate) regarding my clothes, hair color, and hair style. They do not do this to the older profs. Also i findmthat they argue with me and try to find flaws in the things I do more often than with the older male profs.

  5. Is that why they are always arguing with me, Prof Brown-Cow? I'd noticed that I get more fight from my students than my colleagues but I'd never made the connection. That's some food for thought.
