My beautiful and vexing daughter, who has run through as many majors as she has unworthy, scruffy, douchebag boyfriends, tells me she IS going to graduate in May.
"Like, mom, it's not such a big deal. Everyone graduates, eventually."
Mom? Grad school? Like, maybe in Hawaii? |
One of the things that shocked me when I started my teaching position in the late 1980s was that high schools had a two-times-and-you-graduate policy. In other words, students could fail once but they still end up with their diploma later on.
ReplyDeleteSince many of my students had just graduated from high school, no wonder they had poor work habits and a slack attitude.
....And the student debt crushes Leslie K.'s daughter alive.
ReplyDeleteHA! With the money these moderators rake in from the side-bar ads, Leslie K. probably paid her girl's tuition in cash.
DeleteThe debt crushes us all, Strelly!
DeleteNot if you demolish banks like I do....
DeleteDidn't they have a Coolest College Student Ever graphic? Sounds appropriate. Congrats to the most moderating of moderators, The Lovely and Gracious Leslie K.
ReplyDeleteSmoochies, Ben.
DeleteJust to be clear, she's getting her BA in a sort of dual-studies Humanities program that was partly her own creation.
ReplyDeleteAnd thank you for the well wishes, and ALL the email...you're all so sweet.
Oh, and the current boyfriend is not a douche...like OMG, mom.

Yay for you both, Leslie!!!
ReplyDeletePlease tell me she's going to study something equally useful in grad school. :) Congrats to you both!
ReplyDeleteHuzzah!
ReplyDeleteYay for you and your daughter!
ReplyDelete<3
ReplyDeleteYay! Congrats!
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful! You must be so proud (and relieved!!LOL)!
ReplyDeleteWhat a relief! You must feel like my parents did when I finally graduated from college, after six years. I did earn two Bachelor's degrees, in disciplines with no overlap whatsoever. But graduation is good.
ReplyDeleteWay to go, Leslie and spawn!
ReplyDeleteHurrah! Congratulations to both of you!
ReplyDelete(And I really hope her announcement was not based on the assumption that she could talk her way into my required class, which she should have taken two years ago, because I just told several people in that situation "no." I suggested that, if they really can't fit one of the current sections into their schedules -- and apparently those really are packed -- taking the class this summer would delay their graduation by only a month or two. Yes, I'm a meanie.)
w00t!
ReplyDeleteCongrats to you and to her! That's terrific.
