I'm just about to sign a contract for my first book, and I'm being introduced to the wonderful world of subventions. I didn't know this was a thing going into this. Now I get to scramble to try to find a grant for nearly $1000 so my book will get published and sold at a reasonable price.
That seems to be more and more a thing, just when there's less and less money available. I understand why (many of the same pressures that affect proffies also affect university presses, plus some additional ones), but it's still frustrating.

DeleteCongratulations on the book contract, though!
