bad monday morning haiku


I.

essay one is due
today. below zero is
the temp, not the grades.

wonder how many
students won't have their drafts? "the
cold ate my homework!"


II.

below zero does
not improve motivation--
mine, that is. coffee...


III.

observation this
week. how much more can i make
myself resemble

you, so that i am
suitable enough to be
deemed tenure worthy?

    But aren't the grades below zero, or at least zero, until they actually hand something in? That's a concept that seems to escape some of my students.

    Good luck with the observation; they should tenure you on the strength of your haiku-writing skills alone (but I guess you'd better not put III, good as it is, in your portfolio).
