Perhaps on discovering that, given the current state of the job market, Steppingstone College seems likely to be home sweet academic home for the foreseeable future, even though the nearest Whole Foods (and the nearest research library) is a 2-hour drive away?
Or on realizing that, in order to get tenure, one has to do more than tweet about one's research; one has to publish it? (No offense to the digital humanities scholars out there; I know that many of those who tweet also do serious scholarly work, and I hope to present the results of some of my research in digital form myself. But, given the growing "cool" factor of the digital humanities, I suspect that the "digital humanist" moniker will become increasingly attractive to gumdrop unicorns who are more clearly digital than humanist.)
