In the midst of all the discussion of the Rappaport story, we seem to have missed the following video, which was linked at the bottom of that story. For shame!
I don't have a problem with the "teaching is like sex" metaphor- I just don't think she did a good job of making it interesting or illuminating. "It's fun at first, but then you do it again and again and it becomes routine..." so what? yawn.
If everyone with a "checkered past" were prevented from teaching, there would be very few teachers, I think. I'm more concerned with how vapid this chick was. I don't care if a teacher used to be a prostitute but I surely do care if she's stupid and boring.
I am a failed phone-sex operator. I couldn't get through the scripts without giggling uproariously. For a while I was a radio DJ, so I have the voice for it, but all that discussion of 'throbbing man meat' was just too much to keep a straight face...
The vocal control has served me well in teaching, though.
