Graphics.

Hi everyone. We try to modify all graphics that appear on the page, if even just a little. Some folks do quite a bit of futzing around; Compound Cal comes to mind. He's responsible for a good number of the recycled RYS graphics we use, the Big Thirsty graphics, etc. plus a number of the community members' avatars.

But we try to avoid putting up any image that simply belongs to someone else as is. One reader suggests befunky.com, which is a fabulous, easy to use, and free site that allows you to mess with a graphic you like. We know nothing about copyright law, or using an identifiable photo or image made by someone else, but we like to at least "feel" as if we're not just stealing shit.

Early on in CM history someone posted the very famous photo of Johnny Cash flipping the bird to the camera. The terrific photographer who took that photo is notably litigious, and we just throught - Oh, shit.

    The graphics are just a pain in the ass. I wish there were none. This is a page about text. I have never spent a second looking at the pictures.

    The particular graphics we use here are a tradition. I enjoy them almost as much as I like the complaints about the graphics, another tradition.

    I'm just not a visual learner, and I find all the pictures distracting. Oh, and the background sucks, too. And the font is too small, when it isn't too big. So, could you change it all for me? Thanks.

    @EMH - I couldn't post frequently, so I gave up my spot so someone else could. I still send Fab emails to put up now and then, though, and I read daily. In fact, CM has saved my sanity today!
