  2. I wonder if I dare use this as an example of standard social science article format (which it is) in my writing class? I fear that some students (especially those from very family-oriented cultures) might be offended. And actually, I don't get a lot of dead grandmother excuses (a few, but not a lot; mysterious illnesses of the students themselves and suddenly busy work schedules that explain weeks-long disappearances are more common).
