Gee, I once got some apple butter from one prof and a scarf from another. The scarf was from from a dollar store too, but I really needed one that winter and it matched by coat, so I loved it!
Myth: My grad students put in very long hours for me, and their stipends here are only barely adequate. Part of my job, I think, is to prepare them for the academy, and I've found all of those books to either lighten or inform the experience. I only have 7 who work with me regularly, so the expenditure is pretty minimal.
Love it, Terry P. You must be doing something right. I think the care of grad students is an important task. I've never had my "own" grad students, but I'd like to think I'd follow your lead.
So? What did they give you?
ReplyDeleteYou buy books for your students?

ReplyDeleteI love adblock. Everything loads much more quickly. I was, however, also clueless about Terry's post.
ReplyDeleteMe too! I thought the answers were:
ReplyDeleteNothing.

I love being clueless about the latest ads that people keep bitching about. :)
