As a Freshman I Had No Car. Sophomore, a Ten Speed. Junior and Senior Year, a 1975 Dodge Dart.

These Are The Insanely Expensive Cars That GWU Students Drive

Students at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. don't just complain about easy grades, they also drive cars so nice you'd think their campus was the parking lot of the Mall of the Emirates in Dubai. In the photo composite above is about $1.2 million worth of automobiles allegedly belonging to college students.
Do your best not to hate them.
There will always be haves and have-nots at any college, but the selection of cars cataloged by the new Tumblr account The Cars Of The George Washington University is slightly ridiculous.
The five cars collected above include a Mercedes SLS AMG ($183,000), a McLaren SLR McLaren 722 S Roadster ($548,000), a Ferrari 575 Superamerica ($320,000), an Audi R8 V10 Spyder ($165,000) and a BMW X5 M in the background ($87,250). And all that's assuming the buyers didn't pay a lot of money for extras.
Flaunting your exotic car is all part of the scene at GWU according to BroBible

The biggest day to show off your ride at GWU is on Thursday. There are no parties on campus, so the student body hits the three nearby night clubs: Josephine, Shadowroom, and Opera, "where these kids go every week and each spend between $200-$5,000 a night three days a week on table service and bottles." Acccording to our tipster, these clubs boast the campus's craziest car line up, "where they pay $40 to valet the cars in front."

  1. No, I hate them. I hate them, and I hate everything they stand for. My hatred burns. Burns the chrome right off the bumpers.

I can't afford to send my kid to the college where I teach on what I make. Hell, I can't afford to fund my own professional development on what I make.

Fuck these kids, and fuck their conspicuously consuming parents, too.

  2. What *are* the stats on students and disposable income? I'm genuinely curious, because my bidness students come up with all sorts of scenarios: overworked -- but hitting the clubs every night of the week, lots of disposable income -- but they shouldn't have to shell out for textbooks, counting their pennies -- but sporting the latest in mani-pedi styles.

  3. I taught at a college in the NE for a while, and one student I had was from the Czech Republic. When he got booted out of the dorms he moved into a suite at the Marriott downtown for the rest of the year.

He took my class at 9 am, and always came in dressed in club clothes, shiny pants and boots, silk shirts. He was the most affable kid you can imagine, but the amount of money he had was insane. He went back home to take over a gigantic manufacturing business after his junior year.

  5. A lot of GWU kids are the children of international ambassadors and high-ranking foreign government types with loads of jack - I wouldn't be surprised if many of these automobiles belonged to them. Of course, there are plenty of rich American parents, too. I don't hate the kids who drive these cars, but I do hate their parents - it's overkill, especially for a school at which a car isn't strictly necessary. Then again, if my parents decided to give me a brand-new high-end automobile, I'm not lofty enough to say "no thanks, I don't need more stuff." I'd insist on a hybrid Ferrari, though. But I can't hate these kids while also wishing I was filthy rich and never had to work again.

  6. Hey! Five years ago I was at a state RII and waited too late to get into the faculty lot. Every car in the student lot was nicer than mine.

    1. Uh, earlier in my career I did a year at a mid-range parochial high school in a tony suburb of a major city.

I often had to walk up the hill from the garage where my 15 year old shitbox was being glued back together as my students zoomed by in Range Rovers, Benz, and a myriad of Euro-chic veehickles.

  7. I have no problem with this, knowing these people will be the first up against the wall when the Revolution comes.

    1. No, these are the sort of rich people who flee, then are tracked down by the Revolution even if it takes years, tried quickly, and shot.

    2. Well, I hope you have it in the right order!
