A tenured professor walks into a bar... From the Columbia (MO) Tribune.

By JANESE SILVEYA

A tenured professor and a non-tenured professor walk into a bar.

The tenured professor says, “I’ll take a merlot.”

The non-tenured professor says, “I’ll have the same.”

The tenured professor says, “You can’t have the same. You don’t have tenure.”

Yes, I made that up. Yes, I realize it does not make any sense.

The Rest.

  1. Of course, you don't need to explicitly keep non-tenured faculty from voting. You can just glower at them in a way as to suggest that maybe their tenure chances depend on how well they fall into line behind their chair/ their provost / their colleagues / the school philosophy / the school's prevailing standards / whatever. Who cares if they are the ones with the new ideas who will have to live with the consequences longer?
