The first one I have just answered, I think. The second one is complicated. Like most of you, I love and hate the profession. We all know the joys and misery that come in twin streams.
But when I scour YouTube for college vlogs, I also swing wildly, hating some of the entitlement and stupidity (which was just like me at 18), but also feeling real heartbreak for students who haven't yet hit their stride. (It took me until my second grad school to start to figure shit out.)
But, I love the young people, truly. When I laugh at them, I'm laughing at myself as well. And when my heart breaks for them, like one girl in this vidshizzle, I feel my own heartbreak from my long ago college days.
Cal, I love them. It is like an accident that you can't look away. I also, can' watch just one. After the video, I always click another on you tube, because they are so addicting. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteKeep the videos. People that don't like them don't have to hit the 'Play" button. If the video goes downhill, they can turn it off.
ReplyDeleteHeart breaking indeed. Too often, I feel, faculty lose touch with their old undergraduate self, and I can see these videos helping with that.
ReplyDeleteKeep the best, laborcamp the rest.
ReplyDeleteI love the vidshizzles! They show so much of what their brains are like.
ReplyDeleteSob stories. They practice them in their dorms.
ReplyDeleteI usually (not always, but usually) find myself liking the kids in the vidshizzles. The kids on the twitter feeds, though . . . I want to slap them.
ReplyDeleteI refuse to join the twitter world because of that. I'm afraid that level of rage would give me an aneurism.
DeleteI don't know how to Twit. I have tried.
DeleteI can't figure it out.
