I really wish Sid would stop reading my email. I'm not sure how he's doing it, and it creeps me out. On a brighter note, he got the count almost exactly right (I don't get a lot of exam-optional questions, either).
My email includes a healthy dose of "I did poorly on/forgot to do part of/plagiarized those homeworks: can I redo them for partial credit/a better grade?" I'm very lenient on late assignments: I always take assignments, for partial credit (because it's good for them to do the work). But do-overs? Nope.
I've had every one of these except the optional final. At least they know not to ask that.
