From Penny From Prince George.

I have graduated now from University, but during my years as a mature student I found this site and read it daily. It made me a better student. Even in my mid-50s I discovered that I was a bit of a snowflake, but from reading the submissions here, I reformed.

Since attending University, and from this blog, I have so much admiration and respect for professors. I know it can be a difficult job, but I am so grateful there are men and women out there who, despite the difficulties, still believe in passing their knowledge on to others.

Thank you.

  1. Congratulations, Penny! For whatever it's worth, I think we're all a bit snowflakey at times (well, at least I know I am). But it's definitely useful to have a little voice in one's head, from whatever source, saying "oh, for heaven's sake, stop whining and just get to work" (I'd imagine that others' little voices vary, and, judging from the conversation here, many are probably considerably more profane than mine. Whatever works; mine is sort of a tough-when-necessary -- on others, and not least on herself -- but not unkind mother/grandmother, which makes sense, since my female forebears fit that description)

And thanks for recognizing that the job is hard. It is, but most worthwhile things are (at least so says my little voice).

  3. Congratulations! And thanks for being thoughtful. May you continue to be successful and maybe even join our ranks. It can be hard, but also very satisfying, such as when good people like yourself thank us out of the blue.

  4. Thank you. I'm guessing you're not as snowflakey as you think if you are able to reflect on your behavior. :)
