You're a crazzy mother. But I love seeing your big face.

  2. I continue to be amazed at how poorly they operate with the technology necessary for their educational goals, yet they can do everything else.

  3. Ugh, the online homework. Requires no grading but generates 10x the number of problems for students. If they need to ask a question about one of the assignments then I get to wait for their HAL 9000 to boot up.

    1. Usually held together with duct tape.

And then 1 time in 10 the online homework is actually incorrect.

    2. Now you know why I don't give my students online homework.

And as far as laptops booting up go:

      P.S. Hi, Cal!

  6. This is usually me, since the older netbook I take to school when I need one in class (e.g. when students are using the instructor's computer to give oral reports) is very old and slow, and, yes, wants to update itself for an hour or two every time I allow it to connect to the internet.

Of course the solution to that, at least in my situation, is to turn off the wifi switch. The only problem with that solution, I've recently discovered, is that my university-provided copy of Office 365 won't open unless it can get on the internet and verify that I have a "genuine" copy (even though I downloaded it in the approved way, after signing in with my university credentials). So now I need to install open/libre office on that computer.
