Time Managing Problems

Wading through all the emails about the budget crisis (sorry people, can't blog much about that, other than to say that it is seriously taking up my time) I come upon this gem, reproduced here for your viewing pleasure:

Hello,
yesterday I got to know, that I should give some kind of presentation on Thursday on a paper that I use within my thesis. Unfortunately I was not attending the last lectures, because of some time managing problems. So I want get to know, what exactly I should do. I already got the password for the moodle course, but not the course name in order to inform myself. Can you help?

Thanking you in anticipation.

This is the Master's course on good scientific practice. Guess who's failing? I hope he complains to the dean about his grade ;)

  1. I certainly hope you're on quarters, but I realize that needn't be the case for such inquiries to arrive. I just got an email from a student asking about basic requirements for an assignment that was introduced (in detail, with accompanying, still-electronically-available, handout) in September, for which he wrote a proposal in November, and which was due in draft form two weeks ago. And he's a student I would have described as engaged and relatively on top of things. Maybe he's just checking to make sure he's dotted his "i"s and crossed his "t"s? I hope so.

And yes, it would be interesting if your student complained to the dean, especially since he seems like the sort of student who might have no idea who the dean is. I guess the second question is whether he knows who his instructor is. If not, you could have a really interesting exchange.

  2. If you have two e-mail addresses you could have a three-way conversation with the student. It might be unsportswomanlike to "gang up" on the student like that, but it might be fun too.

  3. Will you LISTEN to the state of this fool's brain? God help and save the future of the United States of America, if any.

  4. AdjunctSlave, that's a great idea! I do have a generic dean email I forced the IT department to give me. One bright point of light on the day!

  5. No, man, it's free verse poetry! Just add in some line breaks like so...
