From Gawker. Update on Sarah Grunfeld.

Student Who Accused Jewish Professor of Anti-Semitism Still Working to Expose the Conspiracy Against Her Last September

York University student Sarah Grunfeld accused her Jewish professor of anti-Semitism after failing to grasp that he was expressing an outrageous opinion to illustrate a point, rather than as a true statement of his beliefs. Sarah, who was roundly mocked for this, believes she is the real victim in this case. Now she's made this very professional video accusing the school and the media and, I guess, The Jews of railroading her. Please watch it for yourself. Sarah Grunfeld, ladies and gentlemen.

  1. It's a really well made video. I don't believe her at all, but the video certainly allows her to play the victim, which is a not uncommon role for many modern students.

  2. "Pay attention to me. And my pain."

  3. She may not be stupid, she may have been paying attention in the front row, but she is also young and does not grasp how the world works. While I was not there I cannot imagine that this comment was made in any context other than illustrating his point about opinions. Also of course the university said he was apologetic blah blah blah. They were trying to slow down this racing crazy train. Also, I note she is willing to stand by her story just enough to show everyone else's picture but not her own. If she is going to perpetuate this story she needs to own it.

  4. I started to watch this, then I decided I'm going to save it for Friday evening, when I can sit down, beer in hand, and really enjoy it.

  5. It's a Jewish conspiracy!

I especially like the assumption that because she's an Honors student, she is intelligent and heard every single word that the professor said.

  6. Even if she's telling the truth, she misses the point--she shouldn't have taken her complaint any higher than the professor's supervisor. You can't run to the press, the Internet, or any other public body and not expect to be potentially misunderstood, misquoted, and even made fun of.

She thinks this professor should be held up to higher standards than everybody else, and that's just complete crap. If he indeed broke some sort of code of conduct or honor that he signed off on when hired then he should be appropriately disciplined. He does not need to be publicly blasphemed for such. Professors are not politicians nor are they generally public figures.

This does mean that some profs out there hold really racist, sexist, asshole opinions about things that would be utterly shocking if exposed, but that's true of just about any group of people you want to point a finger at. Attempting a McCarthy-style conquest of this dude outside of the school itself is reprehensible.

  7. She doesn't seem to get that not only have her bridges been burnt, but a sapper team demolished the ruins.

  8. This video portrays a "woe is me, how come people aren't seeing me for as brilliant as I think I am" mentality which was popularized by another Sarah from the north.

Both Sarahs seem stunningly unaware that the sharp end of the media stick can pretty quickly be reversed.

Seriously ... I'll hide my face but show everyone else's while I tout my own intelligence as I trash theirs?

Yeah, that wasn't going to feed the viral mocking!

I wonder what newspapers Student Sarah reads ... or will retroactively claim to?

  9. Holy crap. This is a whole new level of...cognitive issue, not unlike Heywood's from a week or so back (having a student lodge a complaint because the student didn't like being told he was wrong).

She skipped a step in her little slide show: She "exposed" Prof J's supposed anti-Semitic statement, then got attacked in the media for being a moron. She forgot to point out that she got attacked in the media because she took the matter "outside" when she wasn't satisfied with the response she got from the professor and the administration. Her mistake was in going to the media in the first place--and because she was, in fact, W R O N G, she got schooled. Or maybe not.

  10. Honor students should know better than to say, "Me and my mom..."

  11. This girl is a disgrace. I remember commenting how stupid and stubborn she must be to have reiterated her stance when the details became known. It appears I overestimated her.

  12. The top three statements that fall into the category of "The very fact that you need to make this assertion makes us question its veracity":

    1. I am not a crook.
    2. I'm not lying.
    3. I'm not stupid.

    4. I am not a witch.

  14. In the video, she says that Jewish people are on York's Board of Directors, but also says that York is silencing Jews. Kind of like saying there are Black people in the White House, and that they're silencing Blacks. It's not unthinkable, but it makes you wonder. It seems like most of the Jewish people she encounters are self-hating Jews. Are they drawn to her? Or does she seek them out? Or did I miss something here?

  15. I wonder if her parents have tried to keep her from making a public fool of herself, or if they've thrown up their hands.

    1. You ask them about Sarah and they say "I have a kid?"

      The help raised her....

  16. She might end getting a nice job, thou. If I were a politician, I´d hire her to torture reality, spin news and, generally, as Equivocator in Chief. With an iron-clad contract giving me exclusive rights for any "The true story behind my years working for the French Professeur" book.

  17. Poor thing. The internet now means your mental illness can be on display to the world.

    1. I don't think she's mentally ill, just damned stubborn. It's like the end of "Buddenbrooks" by Thomas Mann; she stamps her heel ans says "it is so" despite the evidence.
