Real Goddamned Mail. Geography Edition.

  • I lurve the new header. It's actually a view I have out my office window here at Xxxxxx University. It's rare to see it uncrowded, even in the summertime.
  • I teach at Xxxxxx College and was glad to see you used a photo from our campus in the header.
  • I have sat right at that those tables. They're in the lower quad here at Xxxxxxx State University. Of course I've been bonked on the head with a frisbee from time to time, but it's a great place to while away office hours.
  • You must have copied a photo from my college website (Northern Xxxxxxxx University) for your new  header. That's a spot I pass by once a day or so as I walk to class. It's a beautiful spot and I always wish I had a little picnic basket instead of my goddamned briefcase.
Mod Note: The photo in the header is not from any of the four campuses named above.

  1. This is the exact same mistake that leads to so many emails that start, "So and so was talking about a bad colleague in a post this morning, and I know it's me!"

  2. Fab's astute observation was meant to distract everyone from the fact that that "photo" is actually just a copy of a small part of a secret, unprovenanced van Gogh painting that would probably fetch $300 million at Sotheby's. Very clever, Fab.

    1. Even more, now that it's been showcased at CM!

    2. I shouldn't have said anything. Only a handful of people are even aware that van Gogh spent a semester as an artist-in-residence at the compound in 1889. Once word gets out, hoards of artsy-fartsy kids will start sleeping on the lawn of the compound and asking us how they can get a leg up in the MFA admissions process at Miami.

On the other hand, maybe it's about time people started appreciating van Gogh's Miami Period.

  3. Of course it's Miami U. of Oxford. The 4 of us like to sit at the table in the lower right-hand corner and make up new names and avatars.

  4. I think it is nice that many people think it is their campus. CM belongs to everybody!

    1. ....Or it could be that a lot campuses have areas that look like the photo. Consider it the "Balboa Park-itzation" of the American college campus.

    2. I was thinking along the same lines as Strelnikov. And the student centers (and gyms) look even more similar. Which of course raises (not begs) the question of why high school seniors expend so much time, effort, and angst choosing among schools.
