  1. Can you imagine if the faculty put stuff like this on the Interwebz? "Uh oh! I forgot I had to lecture on Foundations of Hamsteroloyt today. Better read the chapter introduction and make up something quick!"

  4. I just came from an essay help class. Bring in your completed essay which is due next week and I will tell you what needs to be improved to help you get that better grade. Six of thirty showed. Two didn't have essays and two didn't have finished essays.

    1. Indeed. My first thought on seeing these tweets was "I wonder whether any of those are mine." They certainly sound all too familiar.

Another maxim I've filed away in my mental semester-planning folder: if I'm going to make myself available for student conferences on non-teaching days, do so as late in the semester as possible, since, no matter when I officially schedule the conference period, I'll end up coming in on those days until the end of the semester.

Thank goodness for Thanksgiving. Not only do I get a few days off; students now seem to be counting on getting things done over the break, and are a bit less interested in meeting with me (since that requires at least a partial draft). This is not, of course, a pattern of behavior likely to lead to success in the class, but at this point I'll take any respite I can get, for any reason.
