Sammy in Saskatoon Says: "The New University of Moncton Ad Makes Me Want to Go Back to College."

  1. That library scene is pretty tame compared to what has been reported to occur at our uni's library stacks (and the stacks of every other uni I've been to)... and methinks that this scene in the ad is a suggestion that 'this too could happen to you, if only you were to enroll at our uni'...

    1. Yeah, but isn't all of it? That was some pretty fancy clean-room vacuum technology they were working with two scenes previously.

  2. I must have either gone to the wrong universities or was far too studious. In all my years as a student, I never saw anything like the library scene.

On the other hand, I do recall at my undergrad alma mater one year a group of students who were studying near me. They smuggled in beer as I frequently heard a hiss followed by the sound of a bottle cap hitting the floor.

  3. At first I wasn't going to watch this, for fear of flashbacks. But then I read the comments and kept seeing the mention of this "library scene".

Talk about getting shit past the radar!

  4. There was some sort of virtue (or lack of virtue) test circulating when I was undergrad that included questions about various venues where one might have "done it," including the library stacks. Needless to say, earning/losing that point (depending on how one thought about it; the test was oddly designed/phrased, so that accumulating more points made one sound "bad," except that of course everyone fascinated with the thing really wanted the highest score possible) was a favorite reading period activity (and there were various obscure call number categories circulating as suggested venues for the act, which worked pretty well until/unless more than one couple decided to get adventurous at the same time.)

    1. I've just remembered (that's how my mind works these days: slowly); it was a "purity test."

  5. Um... Have any of you guys ever *been* to Moncton? I suspect the reality is far less "library scene" and far more Tim Horton's in February.

Which I suppose is still an improvement on Saskatoon in February

Which is in turn an improvement on Tuktoyaktuk in February now that I stop and think about it.

  6. I remember avoiding certain parts of the library as an undergrad BECAUSE of encountering such behavior in the stacks.

  7. It would be interesting to analyse this video for how much of it actually pertains to learning.
