New American Dream?

  1. Not my usual kind of listening, but a) that was good, and b) there is a very good dialogue going on in the comments section (unusual for youtube) between people currently at college, thinking about attending, and those still dealing with loans.

According to Wikipedia, this guy was a pretty good student and taught high school math for a few years after graduating.

  2. As with EC1, it's not the genre I listen to but it is a good song. I liked the overall message of being thrifty, studious, hard working, and responsible. Bonus: I didn't have to look up any lyrics on Urban Dictionary.

  3. I guess this is the early-21st-century version of a mortgage-burning party (which says something about the state of things; graduates who are focusing on paying back loans -- and I, too, applaud that -- are not saving up for a down payment on a house, let alone making headway toward retiring a mortgage. And that might well be at least a partial explanation of why the economy remains stalled -- and also why Bernie Sanders has quite a following among young people).
