A Request Of All Inactive CM Correspondents.

If you are not posting to the page but have a full access login, I'd ask that you consider giving it up. I've started to collect names of folks who'd like to join up and post regularly, and I'd like to make the inactive accounts available to them. There are more than 20 folks who have never posted a single item to the page over the first 13 weeks of the blog's existence.

I really never wanted to simply delete unused accounts, but perhaps that's not so unreasonable.

Anyone with a Blogger, TypePad, WordPress, or LiveJournal login can comment, but we're limited to 100 "correspondents" who can actually post their own material.

Feel free to email me or comment below if you have any questions or suggestions on the issue.

  1. If people aren't using their logins to post, they should be deleted. I can't believe there are 100 offical "CM Correspondents," because I'd bet there are only 30-40 who are ACTIVELY posting. If you're not posting at least 2 times a month (and that's LOW),then I'd think you could cut them. Just my opinion. I'm only a commenter.

  2. I think there should still be an account where we can send stuff we'd like on the main page as a Post, but without using up a posting ID just for that sporadic entry or two. Maybe call it the Hive Mind or something.

  3. I'm willing to give up my account, since I've never posted. If I come up with anything I'll send it in.

  4. We can certainly try what April suggests. I will write something up so all readers know they can send in stuff to the main "EMAIL US" address. Is it expected that I'd just put this stuff up no matter what, no moderation? I'm just asking.

  5. Well, I'll give mine up -- I had my first class two days ago, and am sad to go before I came, as it were, but I don't want to take posting opportunities away from anyone else.

CM, if you're willing to moderate sporadic send-ins, the by all means, but it sounds like a lot of work for you! Do whatever's best for you.

  6. As much as I love ELS, he's clearly not Mathsquatch in the math department. Minimum 2 posts per month for 100 people would be minimum of almost 7 posts per day every day. Minimum. Not including all the comments. How am I going to find time to do my job if I'm reading CM all day? Besides, I'd rather someone post biannual gorgeous misery than daily mediocre misery.

Let them delete themselves if they want, but don't force them out.

  7. My thoughts on the Hive Mind (email us and we'll post it) thing -- I wouldn't expect you to "moderate" or edit, just be a conduit. And if they're not time-sensitive, perhaps only post them when it's been a lax day or so, to keep new content/voices appearing.

  8. I like the Hive Mind idea. I would perhaps be willing to contribute occassionally but not enough to rationalize being an official contributor. I would have no expectations that Fab Sun moderate or edit posts. But I do believe that Fab Sun should have the right to not post emails he or she doesn't think are appropriate (like whiney emails from Snowflakes, death threats, or Nigerian 419 scams).

  9. the page is averaging between 4-5 posts a day now...7 wouldn't be unheard of. but I admit my math skillz are for shit.

  10. Hi everyone. I'm sorry I had to ask, but lately we've been getting some more folks who'd like to join up, and I was wondering about folks who had yet to post yet. I don't believe Marcia has ever posted, but I also hate to have her give her up rights because she's such a frequent commenter - perhaps she's saving up for a big October!!!

I also have no interest in moderating or editing stuff that comes in, and I don't want to get to a point where the page is a chore, so this is all fraught with a certain ambivalence. I don't want to bump folks. But I don't know why people have posting rights if they haven't used them once in 13 weeks. I don't want to shut people out of submitting, but I don't want to have to do their posting for them.

I don't REALLY want to do anything except login and read the funnies. I admit I'm a simple man.

5 folks who have never posted have let go of their rights today and I've sent 5 invites to the top people on my list. Let's see how it shakes out over the next couple of days as our weekday-only readers see this note and respond.

    Fab!

  12. I'm in Marcia's boat...I've only posted once, but I comment a fair bit. As long as I wouldn't lose commenting rights, I'm willing to surrender my posting rights. Just let me know.

  13. That's sweet, CM, but I'll do what Ruby does and give it up for an occasional post through Hive Mind. This is going to sound snowflakey, but I have a terminal illness in my immediate family and that has impaired my ability to complain about academia. From where I stand my job looks great, now.

So if you haven't deleted me yet, please do. If I suddenly find myself regretting the loss, I'll come crawling back. Meanwhile, I vote that Anastasia take my posting rights, if she doesn't have them already. That girl rules. And where did Samantha Folkchurch go? I miss those cartoons.

  14. @Marcia - I am sorry to hear that and my deep condolences to you and your family.

About the posting rights - thank you! However, I am but a lowly student so I'll just keep to the comment section. :)

  15. I've commented some (but those posts seem to always be the controversial ones that get removed), but will begin posting once those rough drafts start coming in ;)

    @Blackdog - LOL!!
